Q:I accidentally swallowed one drop of lavender oil. Is it safe to breastfeed my baby tonight?
I was intending to take my liquid vitamin D. The two bottles look very similar and I accidentally took a drop of lavender oil instead. Is this toxic to me or my baby if I breastfeed tonight?

It was pure lavender oil by Aura Cacia.
I have lot’s of milk saved up I did bottles through the night. I called poison control and they did not have any info on breastfeeding. Internet has a lot of conflicting information. I am going to nurse today thanks for almost all the comments. Appreciated.

I’m not a doctor. I don’t know.
but… in my own opinion (not as a medical professional), I wouldn’t breastfeed if you don’t have to. wait 2 days if possible. It will probably be fine, but if you don’t have to breastfeed, just wait a day or two.
In the meantime, have some hot water and fresh lemon juice (preferably organic) to clear your system.

Geez “Beauty” Its an honest simple mistake.. Grow up!
I doubt 1 single drop of lavender oil will do anything, but I suggest looking up lavender essential oil on wikipedia and seeing its properties and uses/warnings etc..
Look up the company that makes it and see if they have a hotline..
Call your doctor, ask their opinion, If youre worried, try not to breastfeed tonight, do you have any milk saved?

Was it PURE lavender oil or was it a fragrance blend?
Pure lavender oil is completely non toxic and can actually be used in cooking. My favourite tipple is actually a lavender liqueur- and yes it is made from lavender flowers!
